Microsoft and Egnyte: Orchestrating the Digital Workflow Live Seminars

I speak with customers often and many mention the challenge of balancing legacy platform investments with integrating new, user-requested, best of breed business apps. The demand for these new apps, they tell me, is growing exponentially. They say their workforce is mobile and vocal and requests 24-hour access to content online, offline, on their PCs, Macs, and mobile devices. These requests pose more than a few security and data governance issues for even the most sophisticated IT teams. And increasingly, the more apps are used, the more data silos are created. Data silos kill collaboration and productivity. Finding the right document, and sharing it with the right people, is dramatically slowed by searching multiple data silos in multiple systems for that content. A recent study noted that the average corporate employee is spending 36% of their day simply searching for the right content. (IDC, “Unlocking the Hidden Value of Information”). These data silos, intended or not, are typically the main culprit. So how to balance the need for IT-managed data security and centralized management with the need for users’ collaboration and data access requirements? The key is getting all your systems to play nice together and ensure that you have one content layer that is accessible to all your users and all the applications that they work with. Once that’s in place, IT finds it much easier to implement needed security and governance policies, and users no longer have to spin their wheels looking for content across a bunch of different silos. Even better, different users can choose different applications for their needs without breaking the integrity of the whole system. The most successful digital workflow initiatives I’ve seen follow two simple rules:

  • Enable users to choose the applications that meet their business needs and that they can use anywhere from the devices of their choice, and
  • Enable IT to create and easily manage a unified security and governance policy for content regardless of the applications chosen by their end users

These two rules will be a major focus of our Orchestrating the Digital Workplace seminars in San Francisco on May 18th and in Dallas on May 24th. Experts from Microsoft, PCL Construction, and Balfour Beatty will be on hand, so bring your questions to learn how they’ve answered these challenges.I hope to see you in San Francisco or Dallas. For those of you looking for practical, real world advice on evolving your own digital workplace strategy, I think you’ll find it time well spent. For more details and quick registration, visit below.
